Looking for a seat
Seeking SelectionOnce you have been approved as a candidate, you can apply for selection by local parties. We would strongly recommend joining the Parliamentary Candidates Association as soon as you are approved, as we can give you a lot of help in preparing for selection. Remember that not all seats are the same. As an approved candidate, you will almost certainly be able to stand in a set at the election, but if you want to stand in a good seat, with strong possibilities of winning, you will need advice and information about the best way of going about it. Selection is by a secret ballot open to all local party members who were members before selection began. Selections are advertised in Lib-Dem News, and on the secure section of this website. For selection, you will need to apply to the returning officer for an application pack, and return it to them by the application deadline. Candidates are longlisted based on their applications. Longlisted candidates will be interviewed, and, following that, short-listed candidates will have about two weeks to contact local members before the ballot. The rules governing conduct of candidates are very strict! For European candidates, the process is slightly more complicated, and the selection period is longer. As soon as you have been selected, you need to begin campaigning as a Prospective Parliamentary Candidate.
